The Ganden monastery, 60 km east of
Lhasa , was built in 1409, the 7th year during the
region of Emperor yong le of the Ming Dynasty. It
is situated at 4300 m in a bowl like amphitheatre
and commanding a dramatic view of the Lhasa river
valley. Samye was the first great Buddhist monastery
in Tibet, founded in 775 A.D. during the reign of
King Thrisong Detsen. On the advice of Guru Rimpoche
and a visiting scholar from India, the King ordered
Samye built as a three dimensional model, or mandala,
of the Buddhist universe. It takes 3-4 days to walk
from Ganden to Samye. This is one of the finest soft
treks in central Tibet which combines the two most
popular & holy monasteries of Tibet.

from Ganden to Samye to let the travelers knwo about
these historic monasteries with sightseeing tours
of Lhasa city & surroundings. These treks / tours
are conducted from Kathmandu, however for the visitors
who do not wish to do it from Kathmandu, direct tour
from Chengdu (Chinese Part) could also be arranged.
