The Annapurna range includes four prominent peaks called Annapurna; the whole mountain figures a fence on the northern side of Pokhara valley. The highest point of the range is at the west and is known as Mt. Annapurna I. An expedition to Mt. Annapurna was first done by Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal, French expedition on June 3rd, 1950.

Annapurna is a Sanskrit name which exactly means "full of food", but in general is converted as the “Goddess of the Harvests”. In Hinduism, Annapurna is a goddess of fertility and agriculture and an avatar of Durga. Mt. Annapurna is located at the east of a great gorge cut through the Himalaya by the Kali Gandaki River. The major peaks on the Annapurna range is Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna II (7937 m), Annapurna III (7555 m), Annapurna IV (7525 m), Gangapurna (7455 m) and Annapurna South (7219 m). The Annapurna peaks are amid the planet's one of the most dangerous mountains to climb, with a fatal accident rate of 40%.
