The kingdom of Bhutan, secluded from the outside
world for centuries, is one of the best preserved regions
of the Himalaya, thanks to the Bhutanese government's restrictive
tourism policy. Life in this Himalayan paradise remains
unchanged since bygone days, and the visitor will be struck
by the carefree Bhutanese lifestyle and the rich religous
culture of this peaceful haven.
Our Bhutan tours are designed to give you
insights into this isolated kingdom while covering most
places of interest. The four main destinations of Paro,
Punakha, Thimpu and Wangdiphodrang exude the true essence
of the Dragon Kingdom. Paro is home to some of Bhutan's
oldest temples and monasteries, as well as Bhutan's first
airport. An ancient watchtower holds the National Museum,
whilst overlooking the valley is the cliff-side "Tiger's
Nest" monastery of Taktsang. Punakha is the old capital
of the kingdom and the Punakha Dzong, at the confluence
of the Pho and Mo Chus (father and mother rivers), is the
winter home of the monastic community. There are splendid
views of the distant Himalaya on the road between Punakha
and Thimphu. Thimpu, the political, commercial, and cultural
capital, is an unusual mix of modern development alongside
ancient tradition. The 17th century castle of Wangdiphodrang
Dzong stands sentinel to the town of Wangdiphodrang. All
these await the visitor.
The featured tours are ideal as an extension
to your stay in Nepal. Both begin and end with the scenic
one-hour flight from Kathmandu to Paro, the gateway to the
Dragon Kingdom. Or it could be done by flying into Bhutan
from Bangkok and some Indian destinations.
